The Romanov Family Tree
CZAR NICHOLAS II- The last Czar of Russia, Nicholas was Anastasia's father. He earned the nickname "Bloody Nicholas" due to the Khodnyka Tragedy, a stampede that killed 1,389 people, the anti-semetic pogroms, and Bloody Sunday, the violent suppression of the 1905 Revolution. He ruled over Russia up until March 15th, 1917. The Russian Revolution led to him being removed from power.
CZARINA ALEXANDRA- Nicholas' wife, Czarina Alexandra of Hesse was Anastasia's mother. Alexandra suffered from Hemophilia, a disease that lead to excessive bleeding, which she passed on to her only son, Alexei. It is also notable that Anastasia and Maria also had very acute cases of Hemophilia.
OLGA- The eldest daughter of Nicholas II and Alexandra, she is considered to be Nicholas' favorite. She was a reclusive child, keeping to her room many times. She took an interest in military and government, often times engaging in political discussions with her father.
TATIANA- The second eldest daughter, Tatiana was described as the most beautiful daughter. Anastasia was quoted saying that her sister loved clothes and could look good in anything. It's not hard to see why she was considered to be Alexandra's favorite child.
MARIA- Maria was a flirtatious girl, who had a thing for soldiers. She had quite the number of innocent little crushes on the men she met. Her older sisters objected to playing with her and called her their "stepsister" because she was always so well behaved. However, when Anastasia came around, the two became best friends.
ANASTASIA- By far the most famous child of the Czar and Alexandra, Anastasia was the only member of the royal family who was rumored to have survived. Her supposed story was considered among the greatest mysteries of the twentieth century. Anastasia was a spirited and rambunctious girl with a quick wit and a sharp tongue. Some people said she was clever and creative, while others called her a deviant and a terrorist.
ALEXEI- The only son of Nicholas II and Alexandra, Alexei is fifth and youngest child. Like his mother, Alexei suffered from Hemophilia. Grigori Rasputin, a friend of the Czarina, became a trusted adviser due to his ability to hypnotize Alexei, which often helped him calm down when he began bleeding too much. Though the first in line for the throne, his health was often times feared for, because even the smallest cut could become fatal.
